Peskov: New May order to regulate government’s work

MOSCOW, May 8 (PRIME) -- The new government’s work will be based on an order recently signed by President Vladimir Putin, who entered a new 6-year term on Monday, president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday.

“The document is extensive. Of course, it will be additionally analyzed by economists. And the main thing is that this document will be used as a basis to formulate work of the new government,” he said.

Putin earlier signed a decree on Russia’s national goals and strategic development tasks till 2024 in which he ordered the government to ensure the country’s entry into the top five of global economies, a higher than global rise of the national economy, and inflation not exceeding 4%.

Peskov also said that choosing new government members, including a possible appointment of Vitaly Mutko, is the responsibility of the new prime minister, but that he is sure that the new government will consist of high-level professionals exclusively.

On Monday, Putin submitted the candidacy of Dmitry Medvedev for the post of prime minister to the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house. Medvedev said that he plans to appoint acting Finance Minister Anton Siluanov as his first deputy.

He also offered to appoint Tatyana Golikova as the deputy responsible for social policies and healthcare, Alexei Gordeyev for agriculture, Dmitry Kozak for industry and the energy sector, Mutko for construction, Yury Borisov for defense, and Olga Golodets for culture and sports.

Construction market experts were surprised by Mutko’s nomination. Dmitry Kotrovsky, member of the executive committee of Opora Rossii, a lobbying organization of small and middle-sized business, said that he did not understand motives for such a choice.

Peskov also said that it is premature to speak about the new position of acting Energy Minister Alexander Novak.
